Ben Chilwell ruled out of World Cup as Chelsea confirm significant hamstring injury


Helsea advocate ben chilwell he will miss the World Cup after his hamstring injury was revealed to be “significant”.

The 25-year-old left back held the problem in the Blues’ 2-1 Champions League to conquer Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.

And a statement from the club on Saturday read: “Following the injury sustained in our recent game against Dinamo Zagreb, Ben underwent a hamstring scan.

“The results show that Ben has suffered a major injury and unfortunately the defender is expected to miss the World Cup.

“Ben will now start a rehabilitation program with the club’s medical department.”

Gareth Southgate will name his England squad for the World Cup in Qatar on Thursday, with his campaign starting against Iran on November 21.

Chilwell has made 17 senior international appearances, scoring one goal.

He was part of the team that reached the European Championship final in 2021 but did not play any games during the tournament.
