West Ham thrown out of Papa John’s Trophy for fielding ineligible player

The Hammers played Ajibola Alese in their Group A South game against Gillingham on October 26 when he was suspended after receiving two yellow cards in previous group games.

West Ham have had three points taken away and are out of competition as a result.

He has been replaced in the last 32 by Colchester United of League Two.

West Ham has said they “acknowledge the penalties” received from the FA and EFL.
